Project Title:
Transcriptomic Analysis of Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.1 during C1 Assimilation
Methylotrophs are known to use single carbon sources such as methane or methanol, more specifically bacteria like Rhodobacter sphaeroides are Type II methanotrophs, meaning they can consume methane and use the serine cycle for assimilation.
I work in exploring and characterization of Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.1 (RSP) during consumption of methane and methanol, exploring levels of RNA expression during single carbon consumption and assimilation to uncover the major differences between this and other known model methanotrophic organisms such as Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b.
